"We, of the United States of America, appreciate the contributions made to us by other cultures. Sometimes we forget to appreciate these many blessings we have from our mixed heritage. The Newport 60+ Activity Center would like to bring more attention to them in a series of recognitions.

The first of the series begins with Latino/Hispanic contributions that we mostly encounter, and there is no better time than the annual May 5 celebration. We all enjoy the lively Cinco de Mayo, known so well for the parties, street celebrations and carnivals in some locales, much dancing and singing and those wonderful food items like tacos and enchiladas. The wonderful smiles and happy sounds of Mariachi music delight us."
